John 14:15-17 & Acts 2:1-41
What is causing you to be filled? We need to understand that you and I without the love of our Creator in us, are empty creatures. God has uniquely designed us to be poured into so that we can become better imitators of Him. In response to being filled, we get the opportunity to pour into others, showing them the abundant love that we have graciously received. The issue we run into, as flawed and corrupt human beings, is that we get filled with the things of this world. We leave little to no room for God. We tend to put God on the back burner while we try to achieve our goals.
When Jesus was addressing His disciples in John 14, He made them aware that they would soon receive the Holy Spirit inside of them because He was about to ascend into Heaven. When we read Acts 2, we see the Holy Spirit come upon the disciples in the form of flaming tongues! We see that in the moment of being filled with the Holy Spirit, there is LIFE CHANGE! The Holy Spirit gives us the power to love the unlovable, show mercy and grace, and to offer forgiveness to those we may think do not deserve forgiveness. When we allow Christ to fill us with the Holy Spirit, that is where we start the process of being filled to overflowing with matchless grace and love.
