March 12 - Faith

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11 is often referred to as the Hall of Faith. This chapter presents the stories of great men and women of God who trusted His promises and were considered righteous because of it. Hebrews 11:7 tells of Noah who, when God warned him about things unseen (the Flood), built an ark to save his family. Have you ever taken time to think about the weight of this? Genesis 6-8 gives us the full account of Noah’s life. God told him to build an ark because he was going to bring floodwaters and we are told that Noah did ALL that God commanded him. Noah had no clue what a flood was. He had never even seen rain. Yet by faith, he built the ark and was saved, as were his household. We also see his faith expressed in the fact that he waited on God before he left the ark. After God told him to get on the ark, Noah didn’t hear from God for another year! Noah stayed on the ark until he heard from God again. Even though he saw dry land he stayed. Noah was unwilling to move until God spoke. That’s crazy faith! God is calling us to have this same sort of crazy faith, that we would believe his Word and that when He speaks we would be quick to obey. In Mark 9:24, a man tells Jesus, “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.” This is the cry of my heart, and I pray that it will be yours as well. We have our hope in a risen Savior and until the day that He returns, I pray that we would continue to have faith to believe like Noah; a bold, crazy faith.
