Day 24

Clayton Cloer, Senior Pastor

Matthew 27:51 - Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.

Have you ever asked God why? You are not the first to have asked why. When Jesus hung on the cross with the nails wedged in his wrist joints stretching every sinew in his body, he asked why. “My God My God why have you forsaken me (Mth. 27:46)?” Matthew even includes the exact words that He said so as to not be confused: “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” Life on this earth was cruel to our Lord. He was a man of sorrows and accustomed to grief. He was despised and rejected. He knew pain at another level than you and I know. He is such a comforter because of His sympathy for our plight.

Jesus asked why but not for what you think. Jesus knew why He was dying. He determined to go to the cross to bear the sins of the world and reconcile us to God. Jesus wanted a demonstration as to why He was dying. He called for God to show the world why He died, what He accomplished in His death.

The veil of the Temple was the curtain that hung from the floor to near the ceiling of the holy of holies where the ark of the covenant was placed. The veil prevented people from entering or even seeing what symbolized the presence of God. When Jesus died, the veil was torn because now we can enter into the presence of God, behind the veil, and worship and pray unhindered.

Behold, Jesus died so that you could come to God. Enter into His presence today. Worship Him in the beauty of His holiness.

PRAYER FOCUS: Ask God to give wisdom and direction to the pastors / leaders of our language communities to effectively reach more people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
