Day 39

Revelation 22:7 - "Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book."

We have a hawk that hunts on our church campus. The hawk sits on the left-field foul pole for the softball field overlooking the retention pond. Our hawk is above average in size. Hawks make a distinctive sound when they nest. The screech can be heard from nearly a mile away. But when hawks hunt, they make no sound while watching their prey. When the time to kill comes, the hawk will descend with alarming speed and seize the prey. I have seen the capture of field mice, squirrels, and snakes. It happens so fast.

When Jesus comes again, He will come swiftly. We will have no time to prepare to avoid His coming. Preparations must be made while we wait for His return. Jesus gave us several ways to prepare. First, He said to obey everything written in the Bible. Disobedience and ignorance will leave you unprepared to face the Lord. As fast as lightning flashes from the east to the west, so also will be the coming of the Lord. Second, Jesus called us to watch for His coming by keeping healthy relationships, harboring no grudges, and being gracious toward everyone. Finally, Jesus called us to store up treasure in heaven instead of on earth. We should serve the Lord and prepare for His kingdom.

Someone asked John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist church, what he would do if he knew his Lord would return at that time the next day. He said in effect, "I would go to bed and go to sleep; wake up in the morning, and go on with my work, for I would want Him to find me doing what He had appointed." Would it change your day if you knew he was coming again?
