Day 11 - Apr 7

1 Peter 3:14: “But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear or be intimidated, but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.”

When I was in the 3rd grade, I joined the cub scouts. We met after school on the campus of Pickens Elementary. I was given and fitted for a uniform that I wore to all scouting events. The uniform had an assigned place for commendations and medals. As I accomplished things in scouting, I was rewarded with medals which were pinned on my uniform. These rewards made the struggle of scouting worth it.

Faith in Christ brings struggle and suffering. Our Lord suffered for our sins. We are called to fill up in our flesh what is lacking in the suffering of Christ. When we do suffer for righteousness sake, we are blessed. Peter wanted the believers of the 1st century to live with confidence even in the face of suffering.

In our generation, we will face persecution for righteousness sake. Our lifestyle, values, and character does not match the lifestyle, values, and character of the world in which we live. Combat the fear, Peter said, by regarding the Lord Jesus Christ in your heart. May we refuse to be intimidated when we stand for righteousness. May we endeavor to be ready to give an answer to a questioning world for the hope that we have within us.

Resolve to live without fear. Regard Christ as holy in your life. Ready yourself to give an answer to anyone who asks. In so doing, you will receive the rewards of our Savior.

Father, may we prepare ourselves and be true to you today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
