Day 29

John 1:29 - The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

On January 15, 2021, I was notified by a church member that I could receive a vaccination against Covid 19 at a walk-up clinic in Ocoee because I was clergy. Without hesitation, I drove to the clinic and got in line. I was relieved to have the opportunity to get the jab because I am a type 1 diabetic and at high risk. The wait was two hours, but I did not mind. We celebrated and thanked God at my house for the opportunity to have some protection from the horrible virus.

When John the Baptist called Jesus the lamb of God, he was bringing to mind a similar occasion in the life of the children of Israel. As captives in Egypt, God determined to deliver His people by convincing Pharoah to allow His people to leave. God plagued the gods of the Egyptians with cataclysmic events demonstrating His power over their worthless gods. The final plague was the death of the firstborn. The only immunity against the plague was a lamb, one year old and spotless. The lamb was slain, and the blood placed on the doorposts of the house so that the death angel would pass over the house. Moses instructed the people to kill the lamb, eat the lamb, and prepare for deliverance. The Hebrew people never forgot what God did because they celebrated the deliverance every year with a Passover meal.

Jesus was the lamb of God for you and me. He covered us with His atoning blood, and we will not perish but have everlasting life. Sin no longer has power over us. May we live today in this glorious victory!
