First Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
So you ask what is God’s will for me? Paul said these three things. How is that possible? What does that look like?
Rejoice always. Joy is always available to a believer. We can choose joy. Life may be really hard but for a believer, we find joy in knowing the Lord is with us and has a plan for our good and His glory.
Pray constantly. It really is pretty amazing that God hears us when we pray. What’s even more amazing is that He invites us to pray and desires to hear our prayers. We can pray anytime. God is always available.
Give thanks in everything. As believers, we have so much to be thankful for: God’s grace, love and forgiveness. Two simple words: “Thank you,” are vital to our daily lives.
Grace Cloer, Clayton’s grandmother, was someone who lived out these verses. I met her in 1990. Grace Cloer did not have an easy life. Not everything in her life merited a celebration but she lived with joy. It wasn’t that she was in denial or oblivious to the problems in her life. She chose to live a life with joy, prayer, and gratitude. I saw her when she was sick, grieving, around people who weren’t kind, and when her prayers were not answered. Yet she expressed joy and gratefulness. She loved to pray.
So what is God’s will for me today? It is rejoice, pray, and give thanks. Mamaw trusted the Lord. I want that to be my testimony and I trust that you do also.
