(Psalm 94:19 - "When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul." )
Have you ever awakened at night with an overwhelming fear of the future, your financial situation, or your family concerns? I do. I can toss and turn and lose more sleep over things I cannot control if I allow my mind to wander much. Like never before stress is prevalent in today’s society. For instance, according to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 1 in 3 of all adolescents ages 13 to 18 will experience an anxiety disorder. Research varies on these statistics, but the truth is, anxiety is on the rise.
Factors vary on what the causes of anxiety are, and I have read multiple articles that attribute it to everything you can imagine. However, for me, I can attribute most of my anxiety to lack of faith. Sounds too simple, doesn't it? Well, if you think about it, it makes sense. In Matthew 6, Jesus tells us not to be anxious about tomorrow and our life. He tells us why in verse 30 - "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O men of little faith?" Anxiety takes over in our mind when we lose focus on the One who will lead us, clothe us, and take care of us. What about you? Have you lost focus on the One who guides our steps, and cares for our lives? Rest well tonight, and while you sleep, He is working all things according to His promise.
