Exodus 3:2 - “And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.”
Burning bushes occur regularly in the desert around the equator. Moses had seen many. He had not observed a bush burning without the bush being consumed. These dry, parched, crispy bushes would explode with fire and turn into rising, floating ash. Not this bush, it burned and popped with fire. Moses took notice because the Lord had a message for him. The Lord appeared to Moses in that burning bush to answer Moses prayers, to give Moses a purpose, and to reassure Moses that He would go with Him.
January is my favorite month because I love a new start to the year. My work and dreams from last year move into a new season with fresh dreams and fresh motivation. My head seems clearer in January. January is also the month of my birthday, so I celebrate in the middle of the month.
I look for and find renewed purpose. Moses recognized the presence of God in something ordinary in his life. He had to behold God in it. God may seem distant, but He is not hiding from you.
He speaks through some ordinary circumstances. The will of God often appears obvious, but we miss it. You need marriage help but you will not take it. You need to become faithful to church but you won’t. You need to join a small group, but you would rather rest. You need to tithe but you can’t see how it would work. Behold, God is directing you into the center of His blessing. Now take off your shoes for this is holy ground. Obey. Look and listen!
